The Brooklyn Museum Artists Ball + What I Wore

by Kéla Walker

It’s not often that you get invited to dance the night away at a museum much less do so with THE Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys.  So when an invitation arrived in my inbox from the good folks at the Brooklyn Museum to two step with one of the best producers in the industry, how could I refuse.

Listen, there is no way I am ever turning down an invitation to party at the Brooklyn Museum especially  with Swizz Beatz.  Every year the Brooklyn Museum Artist Ball takes place and while I’v never attended before but I’d heard nothing but great things about the event. The event celebrates Brooklyn artists and the borough’s thriving creative community. This year Swizz Beatz and wife Alicia Keys were honored for their groundbreaking creativity, support of the arts in all its forms, and their dedication to making our world a better and more beautiful place. Guests were asked to wear blue, while they enjoyed cocktails, a seated dinner in the Museum, and an after-party with dancing and tunes provided by Swizz.  Let me tell you, a party with Swizz is like no other.  He spins all the hits- new and old and goes through a roster of his own hits that he’s created throughout the year.  It’s like the ultimate feel good event.  I danced the evening away with my girls and had the best time. To say the evening was magical is an understatement.  It was one of those NYC moments that really makes you love life and appreciate being present in the moment. It was and will forever be a night at the museum that I will never forget.

About what I wore… I’ve been holding onto this blue velvet # for a minute now waiting for the right moment to wear it.  An evening at the museum seemed like it!   And it was. Special occasions like this are also a great time to experiment with style which is just what I did with my hair.  I took the exposed bobby pin trend for a spin ( to be fair, I rocked a metallic pair so it wouldn’t seem so basic and ghetto) I gotta tell you, I loved it and now it’s my new jam that I can’t get enough of.

All in all, the Brooklyn Museum Artists Ball provided one helluva night. I can’t wait to do it again. It was and will forever be a night at the museum that I will never forget. Shoutout to my plug for the invite.
