Celebrate Sparkle ~ (Day 2) Fashion inspired by Whitney Houston & B. Michael

by Kéla Walker

How lovely is this B. Michael design for the Emma character (Whitney Houston) in the Sparkle film?  It evokes femininity and sophistication.  While he designed the piece for the 50’s/60’s era, it’s a style that could easily fit in now.

As soon as I saw this sketch I thought about this dress in my kloset. While mine is nowhere near a B. Michael original and didn’t cost nearly as much as one of his iconic designs, it’s a close match to the dress he designed for the starlet.

Our beloved Whitney took the simplistic approach; pairing multi-strand pearls with her dress. I, on the other hand, packed on a few more accessories for a more youthful spin on my dress.

I can’t wait to see the full B. Michael designed look on Whitney when Sparkle hits theaters this weekend.
