Christian Louboutin Steps into Beauty

by Kéla Walker

Chrisitan Louboutin lovers rejoice! Now you can wear the signature red color on your feet AND hands.  Chrisitian Louboutin is now in the beauty business. Just today, Louboutin launched a collection of  signature nail polishes - Rouge Louboutin. The stiletto like bottles are  very reminiscent of Louboutin’s spike heels for Rodarte,  circa Fall 08.   The cap measures at 8 inches high - the exact height of the brand’s highest shoe. WOWZA.  In true Christian Louboutin style the hot red polish in the collection matches the brand’s iconic red bottoms and offers an ombr’e effect which is unique to Christian Louboutin beauty line.

How appropriate for Christian Louboutin to step into the beauty business this way, considering his signature red soles kicked off the same way. Legend has it that he swiped his assistant’s red nail polish (a ‘Revlon Red shade’) and coated the sole of his shoes to create a more colorful and compelling design. According to Christian Louboutin, “The red sole was born from red nail polish. I am giving back to nails what the shoe took from the nails many years ago“.

Ok so how much will these stiletto nails cost you? Only $50, a small price to pay when you consider the fact that a pair of CL heels can cost thousands of dollars. I can’t wait to see what else is in store of the collection.  Hopefully lip color will be next, you know I’m a sucker for a red lippie .  As of now, Rouge Louboutin is available exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue and  Christian Louboutin stores but we won’t wait long to see what else is in store.  More products are set to roll out before Fall and will be available at other fine department stores and select Sephora on August 6.

So here’s the real question, would you pay $50 bucks for a bottle of Christian Louboutin nail polish or any designer beauty line for that matter?
