Essence Festival State of Style with State Farm
by Kéla Walker
So much happened at Essence Festival! I had nothing but the best experience for my first time. Making it all the more special was the fact that I was actually there with the Essence Magazine team and got to talk about what I love most, fashion and the state of style.
It was such an honor to be a contributing member of the 20th Annual Essence Festival. As you know I did a couple of quick videos for the magazine loaded with fashion and style tips for the festival. Presented by State Farm, there were a few spaces throughout the Convention Center, specifically the Empower U Zone , that encouraged guests to chat up fashion, style, hair and beauty. Essence.com fashion editor Celia Smith curated the fashion closet where festival goers were invited to find there fit and figure out their state of style.
I was on hand twice a day to chat it up at the festival. I couldn’t believe it when I saw my picture and information on the wall of the fashion closet. I mean how awesome is that? SQUEAL!!! There are no words to express how much of an amazing feeling that was.
Before the space officially opened up to the public I recorded another promotional video (which played in the Super Dome where all the concerts happened) encouraging festival goers to check out the space and visit the State Farm Booth. Shout out to Kisha & Agnes my glam gals for the day that gave me GORGE makeup and hair. I worked that look out ALL DAY long.
Re: my wardrobe, I picked out this oldie but goodie dress for the shoot. You already know I love prints and florals and I knew the colors would work well on camera and contrast with the colors of the festival. Plus I love the racer cut style front. It has the very sliming effect for body. I love it, I wish I could find more dress with this fit and style.
Swooning over my heels. They have EYES in the back!
After this promotional shoot, of course there was another wardrobe change for the official opening to the public. You saw how much stuff I packed. Continue to log on as I recap my Essence Festival experience and share what I wore along the way.
