Fashion For Breakfast ~ Sheath Dress & Harlem’s Fashion Row
by Kéla Walker
I don’t do breakfast and I don’t do mornings but when a special invite from Harlem Fashion Row – an organization committed to increasing diversity in fashion – arrived in my inbox for a press breakfast I had to resign my a.m. tendencies.
Some time ago, I did a segment on the organization and I absolutely love the founder and her mission to diversify the fashion industry, helping up and coming designer of color get the recognition they deserve. Every year she produces a fashion show highlighting 4 designers to know and the breakfast was to introduce the designers Latisha Daring, Omar Salam, Joseph Bethune, Nzinga Knight to the media before the runway show on September 7th.
Hosted at Aspen Social club, this dress seemed like the perfect number to wear to the meet and greet. Since the breakfast was early in the a.m. , before my brain kicked into motion, I knew I wanted to wear something effortless and stylish and this dress hit the nail on the head. I scored it from a sample sale a few months ago and the colorful sheath style seemed like the perfect dress for the event. It made for a much better look than my typical 8 a.m. fare.
Learn more about HFR and this years class of designers HERE. I can’t wait to see what they will present during New York Fashion Week. Im already contemplating what to wear to that event.
