Ethnic Print

by Kéla Walker

Because Mondays are such a bummer I like to kick off the week with a great outfit on the site and this ethnic print full skirt seemed pretty perfect for the job this week.

Before we get into this awesome full skirt, can we talk about my little DIY project.  I’m one of those girls that envisions a great DIY but the reality of it all is that I really don’t have the time do sit and actually commit to a DIY.  However I do have these little genius moments (at least I think they are) when I repurpose my pieces making for a DIY that anyone can do. Like this fur scarf. The hook broke off and not having the time to sew it back on I used an old bracelet to clasp and secure it.  If I didn’t tell you, you wouldn’t have known but what a neat trick, right?

Ok now to this awesome full midi skirt. I’ve amassed quite the collection of these skirts this season – see my recent post and here.  It goes without saying that I’m quite a fan of the style but this one is quite special.  I instagrammed a picture wearing this skirt last week and all the comments were about skirt even though it had no relevance to the caption or my picture.   I’ve been on the hunt for an affordable ethnic kente piece for some time now.  When you hear kente many tend to think of old school traditional pieces but the print and  clothes created with the fabric have taken on some pretty modern and chic designs. Just check out the pieces from Demestik for proof.  I love his feminine and flirty take on the traditional african print cloth.  The only problem, is the price. The Demestik line aside, great pieces with kente cloth can be pretty expensive and you know me, I’m a frugalista.  Luckily for me, I scored this one on sale!  I fell in love with this kente-esque skirt as soon as I saw it online. It has the essence of ethnic print piece without being too overwhelming- Perfect for the workplace. It too was a little more than I wanted to pay so I hukked it  and waited for the sale alert to come in.  I think I waited 3 weeks before receiving a 50% off alert.  SOLD!
I love this skirt- the print, the color and the  full skirt cut – it’s great for a kick off to a stylish week.
