How to Culotte in the Pant of the Season

by Kéla Walker

Against my better judgment I’m totally into the high water, skirt pants, culottes trend right now. Plus I have a pretty awesome pair named after me.  Kontine for more on my love on the pant of the moment.

High waters. Gauchos. Pants as Skirts. Culottes. Whatever you call them, these cropped pants a big THING right now. You should totally know though that culottes are the proper term or at least thats how the fashion folks are referring to them. At any rate these  of things, these short(er) pants are in it for the long haul. They come wide, slim, leather, flowing-a variety of ways.   I love’m but at  5″5″ they aren’t the most slimming thing for a girl with my metrics. But being the styleaholic I am, of course I had to give them a try in the kloset- plus this pair was on super sale and the quality is really nice.  As if right on cue to my reluctancy of the culottes trend a designer-shared that he named a pair of pants in his new collection after me - The Kela Culottes. Ruel, the designer behind Demeticks New York makes a lot of print pieces, specifically Ankara print pieces in amazing cuts and styles. I’ve never met Ruel before but I have always admired his work and clearly the adoration is  be mutual. How Kute are these He shared that he was inspired by my scareer and style to name these culottes after me.  I’m beyond flattered.

I’m wearing a slim cuolotte but I’d love to try a shorter, wider shorter pair that give off the illusion of a skirt- like the Kela culottes. They are a great alternative for these Fall days when it might feel like a little too snippy for a skirt but you don’t quite want to cover up in pants.

If you do decide to try the culottes trend for yourself  remember it’s important to balance proportions while rocking this look- whether you opt for super wide pair or slimmer one. Pair them with a tucked in top, (turtleneck in the cold) or a crop top if you dare to emphasize your waistline and add some curves to the look.  Also I  suggest wearing heels with the trend, anything less than 4 and you could end up looking shorty and squatty. As it gets cooler, swap out heels for high heel boots and booties.
