Preparing for New York Fashion Week ~ Prints and Accessories

by Kéla Walker

NYFW is a just couple days away, literally.  In anticipation of the busy week, my NYFW preparations are underway – particularly my wardrobe.

 NYFW preparation

September fashion week is my favorite.  It’s like back to school for fashionistas.  People flock to the City from all over the world and it’s the first time in a long time you get to see everyone and play catch up.  And just like back to school it’s also when everyone shows up in their fresh new threads dressed to impress. The pressure is on and a lot goes into NYFW preparation.  I’ve been planning my outfits and laying out looks that I think will work for the week.  I’ve also been trying my best not to buy anything new for the occasion.  Key word- TRYING.  Already I’ve purchased a couple of things, literally two, but I don’t want to sink into a NYFW shopping spree.  Like the birthday spree where you buy anything no matter the cost or the practicality of it because of the pressure to look good and be amongst the best.  I can’t.  Anything I break down and buy for NYFW needs to be something I’m genuinely into and want in the kloset, beyond the moment.   Like these pants-  I’ve had them for a while and love to pull them out occasionally. I have a couple of things in the kloset that I think can get the job done for NYFW without me purchasing a bunch of new stuff.

** Prints Prints & more prints.  They’re still on trend for Fall and since I have a closet full I plan on working them for NYFW.
**Accessories and lots of them take a look blah to bam with ease.

** Style from HEAD to TOE- It’s not just your outfit that matters but your COMPLETE look from head to toe.  I’ve seen street style stories on just shoes, or hair alone so you want to make sure your head to toe look is snatched.

** With all of that said, don’t try too hard. No matter what you wear it’s really all about confidence and getting through the week at your best.

Even though NYFW officially starts Sept 4, things kick off a little earlier for me so post may be a little lagging. Please accept my apologies in advance.  As you know I work in media so it’s more than just a good time for me and duty calls.  Follow me on instagram and keep up with things there and follow the #DSNYFW14 hashtag on twitter and IG  as me and the girls take you on the scene with us at NYFW.
