NYFW Prep with THE FACE

by Kéla Walker

OMG!!! Fashion Week is here and I’m SO NOT ready. Per usual I will be working a few shows and attending a few others but I feel like I have so much to do and of course so little time to do it. February NYFW always seems to creep up on me and even more so this season considering I’ve been coping with this brutal NYC weather.  We’ve had 1 too many snow days this year.  Needless to say, trying to keep warm AND look cute in the cold and piles of snow is no easy feat.  Good thing I got some model insight to help me conquer the week in style.

Kontinue for read the tips I received from modeltestants of The FACE

In anticipation of NYFW, I had little girl chat with a few real models – who happened to have worked with the best in the business.  A few of the modeltestants from the 2nd Season of THE FACE with Executive Producer Naomi Campbell ( I TOLD YOU they worked with the best)  offered me their favorite tips in preparing for fashion week. I mean, if that can’t help me get ready for the tents then I don’t know what can.  A few of my favorite tips came from modeltesant Sharon Gallardo.  Side bar, can I tell you how much I adore her.  I haven’t even seen her in action yet, obvi- the show doesn’t air until March 5th at 10 pm – but already I can tell she is going to give the other modeltestants a run for their money. She shared that it’s best to “form a triangle under your eye when applying concealer”. Apparently this method is great for hiding your under eye flaws instead of highlighting them like the half-moon application does. WHO KNEW?!  That’s one tip I will definitely be putting into practice this week and the rest of my life for that matter. Another great tip Sharon shared  or I should say reminded me  “when in doubt, keep it simple and wear all black”. There is a lot of pressure to look great at fashion week and like many others I spend so much time trying to put together a cool and effortless look when the fact of that matter is sometimes you just have to keep it simple and go back to the basics.  An all black look is just as chic and sleek as that multicolor, mixed media layered one.

The models shared that they get a lot of their tips from Facemakers – anyone who helps transform a person into a supermodel.  From makeup artists and stylists to photographers and even bloggers, there are tons of Facemakers on the scene at NYFW. Backstage at fashion week seems to breed Facemakers.  It’s one of my favorite parts of the whole show.  It’s such an experience seeing all the magic happen before it debuts on the runway. I’m getting excited just thinking about being in the midst of it all seeing the Facemakers in action at some of my favorite shows.  Combine the modeltesant tips with my own prep and I think I might just be ready to take on fashion week after all.

In the meantime I cannot wait to see  the ultimate Facemaker/ Queen / Fashion Goddess / EVERYTHING – Naomi Campbell coach these models and help them prepare for their future fashion weeks.  Sharon is just one of 12 modeltestants on the show that will learn from Naomi Campbell who is an Executive Producer and Supermodel Coach with fellow Facemakers Anne V, Lydia Hearst. Nigel Barker is the show’s host.

The Face airs March 5th on Oxygen at 10pm.  You know me, I will be tweet watching #TheFace
