Working the Scene ~ Maxi Dress & Velvet Jacket
by Kéla Walker
As you know I work in the media industry and with that I get to attend and cover some pretty high profile events and the red carpets that precede them. As press, there’s a fine like between working the carpet and walking it. Sure you want to fit in with the crowd but believe me, as the Reporter, you never want to look like you are are the star walking the carpet, when in reality, you are only working it.
Recently, I covered opening night of the Metropolitan Opera. It’s one of the biggest events on the social calendar in NYC. Attended by Diane vonFursteberg, Courtney Love, Zac Posen, Katie Lee Joel and so many more I definitely wanted to look the part while interviewing these A-listers but not overstep the velvet rope, so to speak. This dress was perfect for the occasion.
During the day, I paired a very soft and feminine velvet blazer over my dress but as soon as the press line opened, the jacket came off and the dress held its own on the opposite side of the carpet
